There are sixty-four paintings, each one stemming from a newspaper photograph pasted onto canvas and painted over, sometimes a faint outline the only clue to its existence. I have no system for choosing pictures or manipulating them. However, trends in my thinking, the newspaper and the world appear. I am constantly shifting the paintings around on my studio walls and inviting visitors to do the same. I am interested in how multiple storylines are constructed from the same set of events, how each story is a projection of the self who is looking, and each self, a changing constellation of images and language. |
